Akumal

Akumal means 'place of turtles' in Maya, and its calm, reef-sheltered bay is the Riviera Maya's most famous spot to snorkel with green sea turtles grazing the shallow seagrass beds.

The powder-white sand curves between headlands, with Half Moon Bay and the Yal-KU lagoon to the north.

The turtle grazing zone is a marked, protected conservation area that can only be entered with a certified guide.
