Punta Mosquito

A long white sandbar reaching off the eastern tip of Isla Holbox, about 2.5 km from the town, Punta Mosquito is reached by wading and walking across shallow, knee-deep flats at low tide.

It is prized for its remote deserted-island feel and wildlife, flamingos, rays and shorebirds, with its far point now a closed conservation area.

Holbox itself is a car-free island whose position shields it from the sargassum that hits the mainland coast.
