Behind every photograph, somebody at the beach decided to share real-time conditions with the community on Sargazo Watch. This page credits a few dedicated collaborators to the project: those who contribute to beach updates most frequently.
A volunteer team managing the entire project across the Riviera Maya, Florida, the Dominican Republic and the wider Caribbean. The team takes weekly photographs, verifies every submission before it appears, reviews the condition score for each beach, and monitors the live cameras and satellite imagery. It also produces the social media summaries, so readers can take in beach conditions across a whole region at a glance.
Kirsty documents sargassum conditions regularly across the Cancún hotel zone, with photographs covering the stretch from Playa Las Perlas down to Playa Delfines. Her own TikTok channel carries daily weather updates, local advice and tips for visitors, and a live stream on Sundays.
Kevin documents the nature of the Riviera Maya through photography and drone footage on his Facebook page, publishing on the wildlife, the flora, the cenotes and the beaches. He works mainly on Saturdays, when he contributes drone shots to Sargazo Watch from beaches across Playa del Carmen.
Jaz photographs beaches and landscapes by drone, flying a DJI Mini 4 Pro across Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and the wider Riviera Maya, with occasional flights over Tulum. She is a tattoo artist at Moon Ink Tattoo & Piercing in Cancún and contributes her aerial work to the project.
Chris and Joy are Wagabond Adventures, based in Playa del Carmen, where they photograph the town’s beaches regularly. Playa 72 is their usual stretch, being dog friendly and home ground for Ben, their Pomeranian mix. They also travel to beaches in the neighbouring towns and document those conditions as they go.
