Sian Ka'an

Sargassum & beach conditions

A vast UNESCO World Heritage biosphere reserve south of Tulum, Sian Ka'an (Maya for “origin of the sky”) protects more than 5,000 square kilometres of mangroves, wetlands, tropical forest, cenotes and barrier reef.

Its wild, roadless coast has near-empty beaches reached by boat or rough track, and the reserve is famous for its lagoons, wildlife and ancient Maya canals.
