A remote stretch near the Mexico–Belize maritime border, Bacalar Chico takes its name from the narrow channel separating the mainland from Ambergris Caye.
It lies within a protected reef-and-mangrove zone of wild, roadless coast, of interest mainly to divers, anglers and conservation visitors.
